Paul Atkins, reportedly Donald Trump's top pick to chair the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), is said to be hesitant about taking the role due to the amount of work it would require to turn around the agency after it was mismanaged by the outgoing chair, Gary Gensler. Other candidates under consideration include crypto attorney Teresa Goody Guillén, Binance co-founder Changpang Zhao, Cardano creator Charles Hoskinson, former acting Comptroller of the Currency Brian Brooks, Circle Chief Legal Officer Heath Tarbert, Brad Bondi, former SEC investment management director Norm Champ, attorneys Robert Stebbins and Dalia Blass, Republican SEC commissioner Mark Uyeda, and Robinhood chief legal officer Dan Gallagher. Washington experts predict that the Trump administration will likely reduce the SEC's oversight of the digital assets market in favor of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
