Recently, there was an incident on the XRP Ledger where nodes were either halting or not making progress. The distinction was made between the ledger being "halted" rather than "down," with Ripple CTO David Schwartz explaining that as long as the ledger is still producing valid information, it can be argued that the system is not down. However, he also acknowledged the importance of being able to successfully complete payments, stating that if this cannot be done, the system is not very useful. XRPL developer Wietse Wind initially reported the issue and later stated that the ledger had stabilized and nodes were picking up on a new consensus ledger. Wind also mentioned the loss of certain ledgers during the incident and reported that investigations into the cause would be conducted. The XRP Ledger eventually recovered on its own, and RippleX's VP of Engineering, Brad Chase, assured that the team was investigating the root cause and working on a fix. XRPL node operators were advised to update their infrastructure to the latest release, and more details on the incident were yet to be disclosed.
