The first ZK (zero-knowledge) smart contract has been deployed on the Cardano mainnet, signaling the beginning of ZK applications on the network. Cardano developer Input Output used the Halo 2 system for ZK verification to perform a transaction that locked and then unlocked funds. The transaction required a low fee of 2.03 ADA ($1.9). Halo 2 allows for the creation and verification of zk-SNARKs proofs without the need for a trusted setup. The Cardano developer highlighted the benefits of Halo 2, including recursive proofs that improve scalability and interoperability. This milestone represents a significant step forward in the use of zero-knowledge proofs with Cardano.
