Mark Longo, the owner of Peanut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon, who were euthanized following a raid on his home by New York State environmental officers, has launched a token called Justice for Pnut and Fred (JUSTICE) on the Solana blockchain to honor their memory. Longo criticized the crypto community for profiting off his personal tragedy but proceeded to launch the token, which now has a market cap of over $53.8 million. The incident gained significant attention and became politically charged in the lead-up to the US presidential election. This is not the first time a meme coin has resulted in lawsuits or threats, as artist Philip Banks has also taken legal action against meme coins using his art.
