Advancements in quantum computing pose a potential risk to Bitcoin's security and mining process, according to a report by CryptoQuant. Quantum algorithms could significantly speed up the process of solving cryptographic puzzles used in Bitcoin mining, compromising the proof-of-work security model. Quantum computers could also break common cryptographic algorithms and potentially derive private keys from public keys. To mitigate this risk, the Bitcoin community is exploring quantum-resistant cryptographic algorithms and shifting towards more secure address types. Awareness and adoption of these measures have seen a 14% increase.
