According to blockchain security firm PeckShield, the amount of money laundered through cryptocurrencies related to hacks reached $1.3 billion in 2024, which is a 280% increase from the previous year. Rising crypto prices, particularly the increase in Bitcoin's value, may have contributed to this surge. The report also highlights that chain hopping and coin mixing were the main methods used for laundering, moving $452 million and $468 million respectively. Scam losses decreased to $834.5 million in 2024, down 24% from the previous year, with phishing scams accounting for the majority of losses at $660 million.
