Senator Elizabeth Warren has sent a scathing 31-page letter to Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent, questioning his plans for crypto oversight, financial deregulation, and tax policy. Warren focused on the lack of a strong regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, asking if Bessent believes the Treasury's sanctions division should have jurisdiction over stablecoins. She also pressed him on his plans to mitigate risks posed by emerging financial technologies and his support for deregulation. Warren criticized Bessent's tax policy plans, including his support for Trump's tax cuts, and demanded commitments to enforce laws such as the Dodd-Frank Act and the Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax. She also addressed the decline of small banks and the need to protect small businesses and taxpayer privacy.
