Scammers convince victims to invest in fake cryptocurrency opportunities, resulting in significant financial losses. Between January and August 2024, Maryland residents reported losses of around $54.5 million to these scams. The FBI advises caution, emphasizes not trusting unfamiliar individuals claiming to be experts, and suggests reporting incidents to the FBI or the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
