According to a study by Keyrock, 88% of tokens released through airdrops in 2024 experienced price drops, with most of the declines occurring within the first 15 days. The report indicates that few tokens manage to recover after three months. Airdrops, which involve distributing free tokens to early or frequent users of DeFi protocols, were initially meant to reward loyal users but have evolved into marketing strategies. The study challenges the belief that larger airdrops lead to poor price performance, highlighting the importance of FDV management. Solana's Drift was identified as the best-performing airdrop, while ZkLend's ZEND token performed poorly.
