Former CFTC Chair Predicts SEC to Drop Ripple Lawsuit Under Donald Trump Administration

Former CFTC Chairman Chris Giancarlo believes that the SEC might drop its lawsuit against Ripple. He made this prediction during a recent interview on FOX Business, where he discussed U.S. crypto regulation and the potential outcome of the Ripple case. When asked whether the SEC would drop the Ripple case under President Trump's administration, Giancarlo suggested that the securities regulator should consider dismissing all lawsuits it has already lost at the trial court. Although he did not provide a definitive answer, Giancarlo stated, "I would bet they would," indicating his expectation that the SEC leadership would reassess and dismiss the case based on the trial court verdict. The trial court ruled in favor of Ripple in August, stating that XRP itself is not a security. Following Trump's election, there is speculation that the Ripple appeal might be dismissed early, especially after SEC Chair Gary Gensler announced plans to resign. If Trump selects a pro-crypto SEC chair, it is likely that the commission will reassess and drop the lawsuit. Some legal experts believe that the SEC and Ripple might settle if the company pays the judgment amount of $125 million.
