The number of zkSync bridging users has reached an impressive 802,144, with a total value of 245,838 ETH according to the latest data from Dune Analytics. It has become one of the leading Layer 2 networks on Ethereum in just two weeks, since the number has skyrocketed past 700,000. This recent remarkable growth is attributed to its account abstraction technology, along with other features.

zkSync's account abstraction enables cryptocurrency wallets to be turned into smart contracts, which simplifies wallet usage. This is made possible through Ethereum's account abstraction last month. This allows for features such as two-factor authentication (2FA), social media recovery, and automatic transaction payments, which are provided by smart contract wallet providers like Argent.

It doesn't come without its shares of drawbacks, however. zkSync's Era is not bytecode compatible with EVM resulting in 921 ETH being trapped in GemstoneIDO. The company has since said that the issue might have been avoided if the contract was evaluated first on a testnet.

It is clear that zkSync's growth the past few weeks has been meteoric, and if they continue to push safety and security of the users in their platform, the sky is the limit for them. In spite of problems like the 921 ETH issue, they have still been able to make a dent in the Layer 2 scene and have been recognized towards upscaling the Ethereum mainnet. The more Layer 2 platforms to materialize, the more likely Ethereum will be able to scale successfully and cheaply in the near future.
