Scott Gurney, a financial advisor and recent $55 million lottery winner from Sidney, Canada, has warned the public against sending him bitcoin following the emergence of multiple fake Facebook accounts bearing his image. These accounts range from offering financial assistance to portraying feel-good slogans with false assurances of legitimacy. Gurney encourages anyone who has fallen for the fraudulent deception to contact the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The scam appears to have duped people by convincing them to send bitcoin, although it remains unclear how. This type of crime is unfortunately frequent and should be stopped. Gurney empathizes with those who may be facing financial trouble but emphasizes the need to be cautious with offers that too good to be true.

In response, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation has revealed that people should exercise caution when receiving unsolicited messages, not to disclose personal information, and to bypass any payments. Furthermore, contact with police is essential if any proceedings of criminal activity take place.

Having secured his jackpot win, Gurney is now taking care of his clientele during tax season, while he intends to retire in December. He described the win as being “life-altering” and emphasized the importance of being responsible in managing his newfound fortune. Thus, he serves as an example for other lottery winners to be wise and circumspect.
