The Tezos blockchain has activated its 17th protocol upgrade called Quebec, which brings advancements in speed, security, and sustainability. The upgrade reduces block time to 8 seconds, achieving faster transaction finality in 16 seconds. Bakers can now accept more external stake, leading to tripled staking rewards compared to delegation. Staking rewards have also been adjusted to minimize inflation while ensuring security. The upgrade makes Tezos more suitable for time-sensitive use cases like payments and gaming. Despite the speed boost, hardware requirements remain unchanged, preserving decentralization. The upgrade also enhances network security by refining staking mechanics, including higher external stake limits and increased rewards for staking. Adjustments to Tezos' issuance model ensure rewards align with security needs while avoiding unnecessary inflation. Quebec is a step toward realizing the vision outlined in Tezos X, a roadmap for the network's future. It showcases Tezos' potential in facilitating cutting-edge blockchain applications, such as the tokenization of real-world assets. Tezos is an energy-efficient blockchain platform focused on scalability, governance, and decentralized applications.
