Japanese company Metaplanet has issued ¥2 billion ($13.3 million) in zero-interest bonds to increase its holdings of Bitcoin (BTC). The bonds, which mature in September 2025, allow for early redemption and will be repaid from the exercise of Metaplanet's stock acquisition rights. Metaplanet has been steadily increasing its Bitcoin holdings since adopting a Bitcoin-focused strategy in 2023. Currently holding 2,888 BTC, the company aims to reach 21,000 BTC by 2026 and position itself as a major corporate BTC holder in Asia. With low borrowing costs in Japan, Metaplanet is taking advantage of the opportunity to build its Bitcoin reserves.
