German financial giant Deutsche Boerse plans to offer custody and settlement services for institutional clients in the crypto market starting in 2025. Through its trading unit Clearstream, the company will provide custody for Bitcoin and Ether, as well as expand its services to include staking, loans, and brokerage services. This move is in response to the increased demand for regulated infrastructure for digital assets. It comes as part of the implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), which aims to create a unified regulatory framework for digital asset providers in the European Union. While this is seen as a step towards the maturity of the crypto sector, experts warn of potential repercussions for retail investors, such as increased taxation and stricter control over transactions. Nonetheless, Deutsche Boerse's entry into the crypto custody market reflects the growing integration of cryptocurrencies into the global financial system.
