Researchers have discovered a breach in the popular Chrome extension SwitchyOmega, which has put over 500,000 users at risk of private key theft. The breach occurred when a phishing email tricked a Cyberhaven employee into injecting harmful code into the extension. The compromised version of the extension was then updated, and users unknowingly installed the malicious code. The attackers were able to steal sensitive data, including private keys and mnemonic phrases from crypto wallets. It is unknown how many users were exposed to the exploit, but analysts recommend checking installed extension IDs to ensure they match the official version. This incident is part of a larger trend of attacks on crypto traders through browser extensions.
