Japanese messaging app Line is planning to introduce decentralized apps (dapps) to its 196 million active users. The dapps will include games, utilities, social apps, decentralized finance (DeFi) apps, and AI-based chatting apps. Line aims to launch 30 dapps by the end of January and an additional 150 by the end of Q1. This move reflects the growing trend of social media and messaging platforms integrating blockchain technology. Line's previous experiments with NFT functionality were relatively unsuccessful, leading the company to focus on dapps instead. The chairman of Kaia DLT Foundation, Sam Seo, believes that NFTs were too complicated for normal users and that there was a mismatch between the intention and the result of NFTs being seen as investment tools rather than tools for ownership.
