Ripple's CTO, David Schwartz, tweeted in support of Tornado Cash's legal win against the US Treasury. The US Court of Appeals ruled that smart contract protocols are not subject to sanctions. The case was initiated by the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) due to Tornado Cash's use in money laundering. Paul Grewal, the chief legal officer of Coinbase, called the ruling a "historic win" for privacy and stated that the sanctions were "unlawful." Schwartz sarcastically criticized the notion that smart contracts are a service and compared it to calling a screwdriver or book a service. The XRP community showed support for Schwartz in the comments.
