The former CEO of Binance, Changpeng Zhao, commented on the second anniversary of the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX. He joked that it felt like the events happened 20 years ago. FTX unraveled rapidly in November 2022 after a dispute between Zhao and FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried. Binance announced its intention to acquire FTX after it faced a liquidity crunch, and FTX had stopped processing withdrawals. It was later revealed that Bankman-Fried had committed fraud and stolen billions from FTX customers. Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison, while Zhao also served time for violating anti-money laundering laws and stepped down as Binance CEO. Despite their similar fates, Zhao emphasized that comparing him to Bankman-Fried would be unfair. Zhao has also stated that he does not plan to return to leading Binance.
