An alleged SIM-swap hacker named Robert Powell, who is accused of stealing $400 million in cryptocurrency from the collapsed exchange FTX, has requested temporary release from home detention in order to attend his girlfriend's sister's birthday party at a Chuck E. Cheese in Illinois. Powell's lawyers have asked the court to modify his conditions of release to allow for this request. Powell, along with two accomplices, was arrested earlier this year and granted home release on a $10,000 bond. The trio, known as the 'Powell SIM Swapping Crew', were charged with wire fraud, identity theft, and access device fraud after allegedly stealing the cryptocurrency from FTX.
