SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw's chances of securing another term at the U.S.'s main digital assets regulator, the SEC, are likely over after a vote to reconfirm her was canceled. The vote was initially rescheduled for Wednesday but is now officially canceled and cannot be rescheduled. Crenshaw would have had to secure approval from the Senate Banking Committee before the end of the current congressional session, which ends on December 18. After this date, she would have to obtain approval from the newly Republican-controlled Congress, which is highly unlikely. Crenshaw has been a target of pro-crypto lobbyists' efforts to reshape the SEC, and her potential departure means the Commission may have a three-person Republican majority in the future. The crypto industry has actively campaigned against Crenshaw's reappointment, flooding lawmakers' inboxes with letters and urging them to block her nomination. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong also called for her obstruction in a recent post.
