Daniel Alegre, the CEO of Yuga Labs and former president and COO of Activision Blizzard, spoke in the Consensus 2023 festival. According to Alegre, the metaverse is not a novel concept as many think. He argued that the metaverse has been around us since World of Warcraft was released. However, with blockchain-driven development of Web3, it is expected to experience a notable growth.

The gamers' interest in the metaverse, however, is uncertain. Ubisoft's attempt to attach NFTs to its Ghost Recon model ended with the failure to attract the gamer’s attention. To capture the attention of gamers and create a successful narrative for the metaverse, games must be built specifically for Web3 and the unique possibilities it can offer.

Alegre noted that if done properly, gamers from Web 2 can be introduced to Web 3. He explained that when the experience is good, people will follow and engage. Success will require more planning of the user’s engagement with the game and pay attention to the social dynamics.

Overall, the future of the metaverse with Web3 continues to look promising. However, to capture the attention of gamers, games must be designed specifically for Web3 and its features. Though the transition may be difficult for some, the experience will prove to be well worth it.
