A popular YouTube channel DidYouKnowGaming? was today hijacked by cybercriminals, who changed the channel name and logo to the company linked to XRP cryptocurrency; Ripple. These scammers employ this tactic to deceive innocents into investing in fraudulent schemes or parting with their digital assets.

This hijacking of the channel with 2.4 million subscribers has naturally caused dismay among the gaming community while users were seeing unfamiliar content in their subscription feed and suspecting the rebranding of the channel was a part of the scheme. In some cases, the original videos may still be present in their private form or delisted, allowing some hope to the affected content creators.

XRP scams are frequent on YouTube, and the incident had Ripple sue the video-hosting giant in 2020, claiming that appropriate measures had not been taken to prevent these fraudulent activities. Scammers impersonated Ripple executors and promoted XRP giveaway scams, trapping innocents and consequently leading to loss of digital assets. The parties later chose to settle outside of court, although the terms of the settlement have not been revealed. Ripple and YouTube have announced to work together to improve the anti-scam measures on the platform.
