The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has requested a 2025 deadline for filing its main appeal brief in its lawsuit against Ripple. The SEC submitted the request to the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. The commission wants to shed more light on why it believes the judge erred in her decision on Ripple’s programmatic sales and other distributions of XRP. Some XRP enthusiasts believe the request is an attempt to delay the resolution of the lawsuit, but a prominent XRP community figure clarified that the requested deadline falls within the court's allowed timeframe. Attorney Jeremy Hogan humorously suggested that if the SEC completes its brief by January 15, 2025, a new president inaugurated five days later could fire the SEC chair, potentially ending the appeal.
