Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed a significant update to Ethereum's proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. He suggests reducing the validator lockup threshold from 32 ETH to 1 ETH in order to democratize staking and enhance decentralization on the network. The current threshold is seen as a barrier for smaller participants and solo stakers who cannot afford the substantial lockup. To maintain efficiency in the network, Buterin also proposes a "single-slot finality" feature that would speed up block confirmations. The proposal, if approved, could allow thousands more validators to join the Ethereum network with as little as 1 ETH, potentially ushering in a new era of decentralization for the platform.
