Hackers have breached the personal data of 58,000 customers of Bitcoin ATM operator Byte Federal. The breach occurred on September 30 and was caused by a vulnerability in third-party project management software. The compromised data includes names, addresses, phone numbers, government-issued IDs, and more. While no funds were stolen, Byte Federal has advised customers to reset their login credentials. The company is working with a cybersecurity team to determine the cause of the breach. Byte Federal is currently the eighth largest Bitcoin ATM operator in the US and is involved in a trademark infringement lawsuit. Cryptocurrency ATMs have faced criticism for facilitating illicit activities, leading to increased regulation and enforcement.
