WorldCoin, a crypto-powered identification protocol, unveiled their pioneering tech to prove that someone is human. This protocol, named World ID, will use zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) to allow users to prove their human identity, without having to share any of their personal details.

The most significant advantage of this protocol, is that it significantly increases the level of privacy for each user, as well as improving security, due to the ZKP protocols.

The World ID protocol will have a myriad of applications, ranging from providing protection against Sybil attacks, to implementation into next-generation governance systems, authentication instruments, and a foundation for equitable distribution of resources. One of the most ambitious yet challenging applications is the opportunity to create systems to fulfil universal basic income, UBI, which is a social welfare proposal with guaranteed payments for all members of a population.

The WorldCoin product was developed by Sam Altman, a key figurehead of OpenAI and Y Combinator, who launched a project to scan the eyes of millions of humans to create Web3 identification instruments. At the start of April 2023, developers will be able to experiment with the software development kit (SDK) associated with the World ID protocol.

World ID is an innovative and practical solution to the era of AI, as it will allow users to prove their humanness with maximum levels of privacy and security. It will open up the possibility of creating systems to provide people with a fair distribution of scarce resources and even, the opportunity to fulfil universal basic income.
