Billy Markus, the co-founder of Dogecoin, recently took to Twitter to clarify his involvement with the cryptocurrency. In his post, Markus denied having any affiliation with Dogecoin and also revealed he owns only a small amount of the coin. He also made it clear that he does not speak on behalf of the Dogecoin team and that he only represents himself. This was in response to the questions he was receiving frequently around his involvement with Dogecoin.

Recently, the official account of Burger King U.K. tweeted: “We need Doge” in response to the news that a Burger King in Paris had started accepting Bitcoin. This led the Dogecoin (DOGE) community to interpret it as a show of support for the meme cryptocurrency and many said that they wanted to pay for their meals with DOGE.

Although Dogecoin has managed to increase its user base by a tremendous amount since it was launched nine years ago, Markus has been absent from the development of the coin for the entire period. Dogecoin is currently being developed and maintained by a growing a team of developers and its original founders, Markus and Jackson Palmer, don't play any part in the process. Despite not keeping up with the development of the coin, the interest in Dogecoin spiked recently due to its face value as a meme coin and its low fees, making it a good option for smaller transactions.
