The capabilities of Ethereum when it comes to scaling has recently been scrutinized due to its surging transaction costs. Fortunately, Layer 2 protocols are in place which can provide an efficient and low cost alternative to the Ethereum blockchain. Amongst them, Loopring stands out with an average cost to send Ethereum of just $0.03 and a fee of $0.05 to swap assets. Other protocols like Arbitrum (ARB), Polygon's zkEVM and zkSync Era can offer similar services at fees of 6 cents, 16 cents and 5 cents respectively. Ethereum still remains the most established blockchain but these L2 protocols can provide an effective way to reduce its scalability issues, as well as onboard several new users. This is achieved via Zero Knowledge Proof technology which speeds up the verification of transactions and clears up additional data that can slow down processing speeds. Currently in development, L2 protocols offer a glimpse into the future of the Ethereum ecosystem and the opportunity for it to reach more people.
