Crypto phishing scammers target investors chasing Trump-backed WLFI tokens

Scammers have conducted an elaborate phishing campaign targeting investors interested in the World Liberty Financial (WLFI) token sale. The scammers created a fake WLFI airdrop and directed users to a phishing website resembling the official World Liberty Financial site. The fraudulent website asked users to connect their crypto wallets and confirm a transaction, granting the scammers full control over the wallets. The attackers focused on wallets with significant assets. The phishing campaign was promoted under posts from Donald Trump and the official World Liberty Financial account on X. Phishing attacks have caused significant losses, with losses upwards of $343 million in Q3 2024. Fake X accounts impersonating legitimate crypto projects are a common tactic used by scammers to lead investors to phishing platforms.
