The world renowned Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and eight other Ethereum Foundation (EF) members have recently confirmed their presence at the yearly Ethereum Conference EDCON 2023, taking place from May 19 - 23 in Podgorica, Montenegro. Throughout the event, Buterin and the other EF members, consisting of Vlad Zamfir, Tim Beiko, Skylar Weaver, Barry Whitehat, Piper Merriam, Andy Guzman and Leo Lara, will present key speeches, panels and technical workshops covering the development and progress of Ethereum's 2.0 upgrade, which is set to solve scalability, security and sustainability issues, as well as talks on blockchain and crypto regulations, decentralized governance and societies, and the current state of the ETH network.

Buterin's presence at this event will bring substantial attention to the development of Ethereum in the next couple of years and beyond. This prominent figure in the cryptocurrency community rarely attends public events and his last public appearance was on February 12, 2021 at ETHDenver in Denver, Colorado, where he discussed the progress and difficulties of Ethereum's 2.0 upgrade. Recently, several other renowned public figures have been appointed as key speakers at EDCON, including former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan, Gitcoin co-founder Scott Moore, Polygon zkEVM technical lead Jordi Baylina and StarkWare co-founder Eli Ben-Sasson. The conference takes place in an interesting context since a well-known figure in the crypto space, Terra co-founder Do Kwon, was arrested in Podgorica in February this year for money laundering charges of $40 billion dollars related to Terra’s collapse. Kwon is being held in Montenegro and is expected to be extradited to South Korea or the United States.

All in all, EDCON 2023 promises to be an exciting exploration into the state of the Ethereum platform, with insights from the most prominent speakers and Ethereum researchers in the business. The goal of the conference is to bring together the Ethereum community and advance their shared objectives for the project’s future.
