Solana should reintroduce a public mempool, researcher says

The ongoing issue of sandwich attacks on Solana has resurfaced as the network's top sandwich bot, arsc, was reported to be profiting millions of dollars from these attacks. While Solana has taken steps to prevent sandwiching, such as eliminating public mempools and blacklisting private mempool validators, the problem persists. Solana researcher Ben Coverston suggests reintroducing a public mempool to foster competition among validators and prevent the centralization of staked Solana. Some argue that sandwiching may not have a significant impact in the long run, as high-frequency trading strategies in the US equities market also employ similar tactics.
