Crypto company Sui has announced that it is adopting SCION as a defensive strategy to protect its layer 1 blockchain. SCION is a modern alternative to the outdated Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and is recommended by the World Economic Forum. By implementing SCION, Sui aims to improve its resilience against hijacks and DDoS attacks by rerouting traffic from IP-based networks. SCION is a path-aware routing technology that provides superior path selection, allowing endpoints to choose paths based on security or efficiency. Sui nodes that use SCION will be able to choose from various paths for their traffic, improving speed and reliability. The adoption of SCION comes in response to previous security incidents that involved BGP hijacks. Sui is the first to use SCION, and other blockchains may adopt it if the implementation is successful. Currently, SCION is only available on Sui's testnet.
