The FBI has issued a warning about a fraudulent cryptocurrency platform called Ichcoin that has scammed investors in the U.S. The scheme, which has stolen around $30 million since December 2023, targets victims through fake social media profiles on platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Victims are convinced to make large wire transfers to Ichcoin and are encouraged to lie to their banks about the nature of the transactions. The platform promises returns but fails to deliver, and victims lose all access to their funds. Crypto heists have surged in 2024, with stolen funds nearly doubling, and ransomware inflows have also increased. Pig butchering, or romance scams, using emotional manipulation on social media and dating apps are gaining attention as a primary threat.
