A survey conducted by San Salvador University Francisco Gavidia found that only 7.5% of Salvadorans use cryptocurrency for transactions, with 92% admitting they do not. Despite Bitcoin being made legal tender in the country, only 1.3% of respondents believed it should be the country's primary focus in the future. President Bukele, who has been criticized for his Bitcoin-buying sprees, has attempted to attract foreign investment by promoting Bitcoin and promoting initiatives like a volcano-powered Bitcoin City. The survey also revealed that 58% of respondents believed the country was on the right track and were supportive of President Bukele. The crackdown on criminal gangs led by Bukele was praised by Salvadoran citizens but faced criticism from human rights groups.
