Socios, a fan token platform which is currently owned by blockchain startup Chiliz is ramping up from its primary sports focus to include entertainment IP. As a part of that new move, a licensing agreement with Sony Pictures led to Spider-Man being featured in sports stadiums across League A and La Liga such as Manchester City, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Leeds United, and Everton. To add to the excitement, at Reale Arena in Spain, an actor physically dressed as Spider-Man was wired down from the rafters to the pitch in before the match of Real Sociedad and Real Madrid. This is addition to appearances made at the training facilities and stadiums of prestigious clubs like Inter Milan, Juventus and Atlético de Madrid.

To add to these promotions, exclusive perks are made available to Socios fan token holders such as visiting locker rooms, watching matches from VIP boxes, being selected for trips to the world premiere showings of “Across the Spider-Verse” in Los Angeles, Madrid, Milan, and London and redeem fan token rewards for Spider-Man merchandise.

Creating a landmark move such as this involves many intricate details and Challenges. Andrea Morando, Chiliz’ head of partnerships EMEA & ROW, mentioned that the challenges they faced was mainly logistical and operational due to ‘multiple number of stakeholders’ involved. This also adds to the trust Socios has earned from its sports clubs and promotes the potential benefits of using fan tokens.

Socios holds an audience base of over 1.8 million users spread across 160 countries and the majority of them consisting of users between 18 and 35 years old. With the intention of targeting bigger mainstream audiences, the firm has already embarked into a partnership with Amazon and the soccer club, SSC Napoli, to offer a discount on select Napoli products for fan token holders.

With more entertainment and mass consumption brands being a target for Socios, the firm looks to demonstrate the immense possibilities with using their platform as medium to reach out to huge crowds.
