The decentralized project Aragon, which is developing tools for other decentralized autonomous organizations (DAO), is facing criticism from activist investors challenging its governance. The Aragon Association, the Swiss nonprofit that is the project's key backer, responded to the uproar in a blog post published on Friday. The statement revealed the Association's support for their controversial decision to ban several Discord members they believed were trying to manipulate the system for their personal gain.

According to the statement, Discord servers and other similar coordinating platforms are necessary tools for a DAO but they cannot substitute for it. Although the process of establishing a fully decentralized DAO is long and complex, Aragon started to move its $70 million treasury toward community control. While people are free to express their opinion and the Association states that it would not take any restrictive measures unless those individuals were attempting to gain unfair advantage, for now a group of members, who are reportedly associated with crypto activists, are still banned from the Discord and Aragon's governance forum.

At the heart of the Aragon project, is the creation of a DAO that relies on blockchain technology and voting - allowing members to decide the fate of the project. The allure of decentralized projects like Aragon is the promise of a more democratic method of governance compared to conventional systems.

However, the presence of outside influences, such as those affiliated with the RFV raiders, can be perceived as a threat to that underlying ideology. Such viewpoints are often in conflict between the need to keep the community safe from exploitation and the desire to remain an open forum of constructive dialogue.

It remains to be seen if Aragon will be successful in its attempt to build a viable DAO and it's clear that this is only the beginning of a long and contentious process. Issues related to regulatory compliance, economic incentives, and community dynamics have yet to be negotiated, and the Association's decision to address the situation swiftly and decisively may serve to benefit the project in the long run. Time will tell if is enough to protect the ideals of Aragon's vision and eliminate any outside influences that could distort the decentralization process.
