Ripple CTO David Schwartz engaged in a discussion with an XRP enthusiast about whether the reported all-time high (ATH) price of $3.84 in January 2018 for XRP was accurate. The enthusiast suggested that this price was inflated due to Korean exchange rates misleading people. Schwartz confirmed that the reported ATH was not the actual price to buy or sell XRP and that it included inflated amounts due to the use of "official" currency exchange rates for Korean exchanges. He linked this phenomenon to the "Kimchi premium," where crypto prices in South Korea are typically higher than in other parts of the world. XRP has surged by 16% in the past 24 hours, with rumors of the SEC dropping certain crypto cases contributing to the increase. At the time of writing, XRP is valued at $3.10.
