Italy: 13 million users are interested in the crypto world but it is still behind
According to a report by the Osservatorio Blockchain & Web3 of the Politecnico di Milano, Italy is projected to have around 13 million users interested in cryptocurrencies in 2024. The report also reveals that the Italian Blockchain & Web3 market in 2024 has increased by 5% compared to the previous year. Currently, about 2.7 million Italians own cryptocurrencies, which is 7% of the internet population between the ages of 18 and 75. However, this number is down by 11% compared to 2023. The majority of Italian crypto holders own less than €5,000 worth of cryptocurrency, with 57% owning less than €1,000. The report also highlights that 65% of Italian crypto investors allocate 10% of their portfolio to cryptocurrencies, while only 15% allocate 30%. The Italian Blockchain & Web3 market is worth €40 million, with the financial and insurance sector being the most dominant at 49%, followed by real estate at 9%. Italian companies and startups are investing relatively little in these technologies compared to other European countries. The report suggests that Italy needs to intensify dialogue between market players, regulators, and citizens to stimulate innovation and investment in the blockchain and web3 space.
