Crypto exchange Kraken has revealed that an individual attempted to gain access to a customer's account by wearing a Halloween-style rubber mask during a video call with a support agent. The attacker had already raised suspicions by failing to provide certain account details, leading to the request for a video call to verify their identity. However, the mask worn by the attacker was easily recognizable, and the ID presented during the call was clearly Photoshopped. Kraken's Chief Security Officer, Nick Percoco, believes that such attempts could be successful on other exchanges that do not have the same level of attention to detail. He advises users to employ strong security measures such as two-factor authentication and passkeys to protect their personal information.
