The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) will be reducing its focus on cryptocurrency crimes as it shifts its resources to higher priority areas under the Trump administration. Scott Hartman, co-chair of SDNY's Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force, stated that the office has brought several important fraud cases in the cryptocurrency sector but lacks resources. The SDNY has ongoing cases against cryptocurrency criminals, but it is likely to conclude them selectively. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is also expected to decrease its efforts in the cryptocurrency space. The Trump administration aims to reallocate resources and change personnel to prioritize other sectors such as immigration.
