The developers behind zkSync and Polygon, two leading layer-2 networks on Ethereum, have dismissed suggestions that a proposal to overhaul Ethereum's consensus layer would make their networks redundant. The proposal, known as the "Beam Chain," aims to incorporate zero-knowledge cryptography, which is used by layer-2 networks to compress data and make transactions faster and cheaper. The developers argue that the changes proposed by the Beam Chain would only affect the consensus layer, not the execution layer where layer-2s operate. They believe the upgrade would actually improve the performance of layer-2 networks, making rollups work better and increasing interoperability between different ecosystems.
