A recent study by MIT reveals that the majority of businesses are still in the early stages of adopting artificial intelligence (AI). The study identifies four stages of AI advancement, with financial performance improving as companies progress through the stages. Most surveyed companies were found to be in the first two stages, with below-average financial performance. However, businesses in the third and fourth stages demonstrated above-average financial performance, exceeding 10 percentage points. The study also found that companies in the first stage focus on education and policy formulation, while those in the second stage begin piloting use cases and automating processes. The third stage involves the introduction of AI-driven ways of working, and the fourth stage focuses on industrializing AI across the business.
