Want cheaper and safer interoperability? Drop traditional bridges

This article argues that consensus mechanisms are unnecessary and counterproductive for cross-chain interoperability in the blockchain ecosystem. The implementation of consensus in interoperability solutions leads to over-collateralization and inefficiencies, tying up large amounts of capital. Bridges introduce non-deterministic data, causing instability and increasing the risk of theft. Furthermore, consensus-driven bridges hinder DeFi abstractions and composability and slow down transaction times. The article suggests eliminating the need for consensus in cross-chain solutions and instead using deterministic proofs and verification methods for security and efficiency. This approach allows for greater levels of abstraction, efficiency, and innovation in blockchain networks.
