The official OpenAI X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked and used to promote a fake cryptocurrency scam. The post falsely claimed that users could claim an "OpenAI token" for early access to future beta programs, but no such token exists. The scam post had errors, referred to the token as "$OPEANAI" instead of "$OPENAI," and linked to a phishing website aimed at stealing users' crypto wallet credentials. Despite warnings from OpenAI's security team, cryptocurrency scams continue to increase, with users falling victim to phishing attacks. These scams have resulted in significant financial losses globally, with Americans alone losing billions of dollars. OpenAI has yet to issue an official statement on the breach.
