Citrea, a Bitcoin zero-knowledge rollup, has deployed its BitVM-based bridge called Clementine on the Bitcoin testnet. This bridge allows for Ethereum-style smart contracts on Bitcoin and could also enable zero-knowledge computations. Citrea aims to use Bitcoin as a settlement layer to become the foundation for global finance. Clementine utilizes BitVM, a computing paradigm introduced by Bitcoin developer Robin Linus, and is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. BitVM allows for transactions to be settled off the main blockchain, reducing congestion and fees.
