Italian data protection authority, the GPDP, has warned GEDI, a publisher in Italy, against sharing its data archives with OpenAI due to potential violations of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). GEDI had partnered with OpenAI to provide Italian language content for training its ChatGPT models. The GPDP emphasized that disclosing personal data without consent could result in sanctions. This incident highlights the tension between technological advancement and privacy compliance in the EU, with previous cases involving Clearview AI and ChatGPT also facing scrutiny. In contrast, the US has taken a more market-driven approach to AI regulation, while China has implemented its own regulatory framework.
