The year 2024 has been a significant one for Bitcoin in terms of transaction records. The cryptocurrency has witnessed its highest-ever price, peak hashrate, difficulty levels, and daily transfer volumes. The five busiest days for Bitcoin transfers in history occurred in 2024, with April 23rd being the busiest day, recording 927,010 transactions. September 8th also saw a high number of transactions with 910,083. In comparison, Bitcoin's early days were quieter, with the most active day in 2009 seeing only 225 transactions. From 2010 to 2017, transaction volumes steadily increased. However, 2018 did not surpass 2017 in terms of transaction records, and the current record of 731,351 transactions in a day still stands from December 31st, 2023. Nevertheless, 2024 is on track to surpass 2023, and Bitcoin's growth trajectory is evident. Despite these achievements, Bitcoin's transaction rate is still slower than traditional finance systems like Visa and Mastercard, as well as other blockchain networks, indicating ongoing scalability challenges.
