Crypto stakeholders, including Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, are raising concerns about Bob Stebbins' candidacy for the SEC Chairmanship position. They argue that Stebbins' past regulatory actions, such as his involvement in the controversial 2018 Hinman speech that favored Ethereum, reflect unethical behavior and a potential return to a regulation-by-enforcement era. Attorney John Deaton and Ryan Selkis also oppose Stebbins' appointment, urging the President-Elect not to make a major mistake. The crypto community is advocating for a pro-crypto candidate to become the next SEC Chair to support the industry's growth and end the SEC's punitive actions. However, Trump has not officially announced who will replace Gary Gensler as the SEC Chair.
