Ex-Takeout Driver Ordered to Repay $3.8 Million After Bitcoin Money Laundering Conviction

Jian Wen, a former U.K. takeaway worker, has been ordered to pay over $3.78 million or risk an additional prison sentence of seven years for money laundering Bitcoin. Wen was previously sentenced to over six years in prison for being connected to a cryptocurrency wallet containing 150 Bitcoin, worth nearly $15 million. The case highlights the concern over crypto crime in the UK, with as much as $5.1 billion worth of illicit crypto transactions linked to the country annually. The Metropolitan Police seized Bitcoin wallets with an estimated value exceeding $364.75 million in relation to this investigation. Wen must pay the determined amount within three months or face the additional prison term.
